How to create the ultimate home yoga space

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

HOME is where the heart is.

Seeing as we are going to be spending quite a lot of time at home I thought it might be useful to share some ways I try to enhance my yoga space in my house so you can recreate something similar in yours. We all need a little time to ourselves to just be and it's important to find the right spot for that to happen every now and again. With COVID-19 seeing us (rightly) in lock-down it's the perfect time to create a little safe haven to just sit, breathe and move. It doesn't have to be a big space at all, just enough to perch your bottom and maybe fit your yoga mat and a candle in too.

  • Make space - sometimes when we are home all the time we become blind to the clutter but do a little clearing, make some space to breathe and move and notice how the air flow changes. There is a reason why Feng Shui works. I have some great ideas on my Pinterest page

  • Dim the lights - I don't know about you but I love to practice when its quiet and either at the beginning or end of the day in a gorgeous sunshine glow but if it gets a little late candlelight, fairy lights and dim lighting allow us to draw inwards and soften.

  • Put some music on - Choose some music that calms you, quietens the mind and that does not easily distract you. I always find music without words to be the best sort.

  • Create a sensory trigger - I LOVE to use candles with gorgeous scents but I also have a room spritz too which is great when the kids are around and instantly gives me that big inhale and release.

  • Accessorize with intention - use what you have blankets, plants, candles, pillows or cushions to create a space that is comfortable to you. You could even create a mini alter with a few choice crystals, ornaments, a flower or photo that you can dedicate your practice to.

A little time on your mat is better than no time at all so even if you just manage 5 minutes - give yourself a pat on the back for stepping on at all!
